„Gaia-X Hub Austria – Domain Security & Peace“

The digital transformation opens up new opportunities for peacebuilding and security. Technologies such as federated data infrastructures, cybersecurity solutions, and trustworthy data spaces can play a vital role in protecting sensitive information, building digital resilience, and strengthening peace processes worldwide. Secure access to digital tools, the preservation of data sovereignty, and a human-centered approach to technology are central factors—especially in fragile contexts.
In many security-relevant and peace-related fields, reliable data and digital infrastructures form the foundation for effective action. Whether in humanitarian aid, international diplomacy, or civil society peace work—only through trustworthy, interoperable, and transparent technologies can organizations act efficiently and responsibly. The use of PeaceTech and secure data spaces can help to build digital bridges while protecting critical infrastructures.
The Domain Security & Peace aims to create a secure, human-centered, and values-based data space that serves both digital security and peace promotion. We bring together relevant stakeholders from technology, science, the public sector, and civil society. The goal is to define standards for secure infrastructures and to develop technologies that enable peace and foster trust.
A central element of this work is the PeaceTech Alliance—an initiative launched by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and the Gaia-X Hub Austria, in cooperation with the ACP – Austrian Center for Peace. It is committed to improving digital access and technological tools for peace actors worldwide—through shared data spaces, events, practice-oriented research, and freely accessible open-source tools.
