„Gaia-X Hub Austria – Domain Agriculture“

The opportunities of digitalisation have significantly transformed the way agriculture operates.
Digital technologies and service solutions support farmers in producing high-quality food sustainably. Digital information is essential for precise crop management as well as for animal welfare in livestock farming. In precision farming, for example, local differences in nutrient availability can be balanced through targeted and needs-based fertilisation. Access to weather, satellite, soil, or health data is of central importance for addressing challenges such as climate change. Digital technologies can also help reduce the increasing bureaucratic burden.
Accurate information is crucial for environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture.
This relies on data from a variety of sources that must be interconnected. Building an agricultural data space is therefore a key goal both at the European level and for Austrian agriculture. By broadly networking data, targeted service solutions can be developed much more efficiently.
The Gaia-X Austria Domain “Agriculture” aims to support the development of a trustworthy, secure, and interoperable data space for Austrian agriculture.
GAIA-X Austria connects stakeholders, provides an overview of key projects and activities, and promotes networking across sectors.
Key national and international activities include:
-
The Digitalisation Platform of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BMLUK) informs stakeholders twice a year about ongoing national and international digitalisation activities.
-
As part of the Innovation Farm project (www.innovationfarm.at), digital technologies are tested and beneficial applications are reported. This also includes the development of a concept for an Austrian agricultural data space.
-
The European project CEADS (www.ceads.eu) aims to interconnect existing Data Sharing Initiatives (DSIs) into a European agricultural data space.
-
AgrifoodTEF (www.agrifoodTEF.eu) is a European network of research and testing centres that evaluate AI applications in agriculture.
